Daejeon Metropolitan City has developed Korea's first immersive firefighting training content, raising high expectations among fire service personnel.
The system incorporates digital twin technology, which recreates real-world environments in a virtual space.
Because firefighters can connect simultaneously and train in four-person teams just as they would in real situations, the platform is expected to play a significant role in enhancing public safety.

A fire breaks out inside the main auditorium of the Daejeon Pyeongsong Youth Cultural Center.
As the incident commander wearing a blue helmet directs operations, firefighters rush in and begin spraying water through fire hoses.
Meanwhile, another firefighter carries an unconscious civilian outside and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
This is an immersive firefighting training content developed by Daejeon Metropolitan City, the first of its kind in Korea, utilizing digital twin technology to recreate real-world environments in a virtual space.
The system transforms conventional fire safety tabletop exercises, previously conducted using 2D floor plans, into highly realistic 3D models.
Eight public-use facilities, including the Daejeon Museum of Art and Wolpyeong Library, have been recreated in both their interior and exterior environments at the highest level of detail.
One of the most well-received features is the ability for up to 20 participants to connect simultaneously and conduct operations in four-person teams.

The platform also accurately reproduces the locations of building facilities such as fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, and fire shutters, making it highly effective for preparing firefighters for real fire emergencies.
The content is expected to be deployed for actual firefighting training in the near future.
In addition, a version for the general public is being developed for educational use in schools, with distribution targeted after July.

The city also plans to expand the content nationwide in collaboration with the National Fire Agency.
However, one of the biggest challenges is the high cost of building 3D geospatial data.
To address this issue, Daejeon is preparing to apply for a national R&D project aimed at developing technology that can automatically generate 3D models simply by moving a camera through a space.
