"Anyang University and WAVUS Sign Industry-Academia Cooperation Agreement and Hold Software Donation Ceremony

[University Journal, Reporter Lee Sun-yong] Anyang University held an Industry-Academia Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony and a Software (SW) Donation Presentation Ceremony with WAVUS Co., Ltd., a leading provider of integrated geospatial information solutions.

The ceremony took place at 2:00 PM on the 21st in the International Conference Room on the fifth floor of Ilwoo Central Library at Anyang University. Attendees included Anyang University President Jang Kwang-soo; WAVUS CEO Kim Hak-sung; Vice President for Academic Affairs Lee Tae-gyu; Vice President for Industry-Academia Cooperation Yang Jae-soo; Professor Shin Dong-bin of the Department of Urban Information Engineering; Professor Ahn Jong-wook of the Department of Smart City Engineering; WAVUS Vice President Kwon Woo-seok; Executive Director Lee Jwa-hee; Director Yoon Pal-hee; Team Manager Oh Chung-man; and Assistant Manager Myung Si-jae. Representatives from both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to active cooperation and collaboration.

During the event, WAVUS donated software licenses for Mappick, its online map creation and sharing service, allowing Anyang University students to use the platform free of charge for a period of five years.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, WAVUS is recognized as a leading company in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial information system development. The company has demonstrated industry-leading expertise in the development and maintenance of major national geospatial systems, including the Korea Land Information System (KLIS), the Comprehensive Real Estate Information System (Ilsa Pyeonri), the National Geospatial Information Platform (K-Geo), which integrates and provides spatial information managed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, as well as digital twin platforms and geospatial information systems supporting the unique operational needs of local governments and public institutions.

Building on two decades of experience and expertise, WAVUS has launched both implementation-based geospatial platform solutions and its subscription-based service, Mappick, while expanding its business beyond the public sector into finance, real estate, and education.

Under the agreement, the two organizations agreed to actively cooperate in the following areas:

▲Joint initiatives to cultivate innovative talent in the fields of smart cities and geospatial information;

▲Co-development and operation of practice-oriented academic courses in smart city and geospatial information disciplines;

▲Joint development of internship programs for smart city and geospatial information professionals;

▲Employment support for future professionals in smart city and geospatial information fields;

▲Advisory services related to the implementation and utilization of smart city and geospatial information systems; and

▲Promotion of academic research and information exchange.

Through this partnership, Anyang University will begin developing educational materials for urban spatial mapping and visualization while offering both theoretical and practical training programs. In addition, practical training support utilizing WAVUS’s Mappick platform will help accelerate the development of highly skilled professionals.

Kim Hak-sung, Chief Executive Officer of WAVUS, stated, “Through this MOU, we hope to support software education and research while contributing to the cultivation of highly qualified professionals in the GIS field. We will continue to actively contribute to developing future talent through close collaboration with universities.”
