WAVUS, a spatial information platform company (336060) led by CEO Kim Hak-seong, has unveiled "Mappick-Cartogram," which allows for easy creation of election maps ahead of the 22nd general election, as announced on the 20th.
Cartograms intentionally distort areas and shapes based on specific data values, enabling information delivery without distortion based on the area or population distribution of electoral districts. Mappick-Cartogram addresses the complexity of design and production by providing users with an editor for easy modification alongside basic map downloading features.
Users can select specific regions of interest and view specialized maps, along with detailed information on party affiliations, candidate vote counts, and voter demographics for each electoral district. In addition to cartograms, it also provides standard electoral district boundaries, allowing users to check vote percentages by town or district, with all query screens available for download as SVG, JPG, or PNG image files.
The current version of Mappick-Cartogram provides results from the 21st general election, with updates scheduled after the upcoming general election on the 10th to reflect exit polls and final vote counts on the 11th. WAVUS offers a free editor for creating or modifying cartograms for broadcasting and media outlets, allowing users to predict party affiliations and candidate outcomes at national or metropolitan levels.
These cartograms, along with seat totals for each party in the region, can be downloaded and directly used in news and articles. Prior to the election map cartograms, Mappick Services released thematic maps revealing the criteria and exceptions for electoral district delineation. CEO Kim Hak-seong stated, "WAVUS' Mappick Service is a cloud-based map collaboration service that implements map production functions previously found only in PC-installed software on the web. Users can easily add or upload useful data, including national spatial information." He added, "Since its launch in November last year, we have been offering a free promotion and are pursuing public SaaS security certification for use in the public sector."
