"WAVUS Discusses Future Information System Development with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance

Growing Prospects for the Export of Korean Administrative Information Systems to Africa

[Maeil Construction News] WAVUS Co., Ltd., a provider of integrated geospatial information solutions, announced on the 12th that officials from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance visited the company on the 11th to receive an overview of the ongoing Land Information Management System (LIMS) Project in Ethiopia and Korea’s administrative information systems, while exchanging views on the future development of information systems in Ethiopia, including K-Urban Planning and K-Address Systems.

WAVUS was awarded the Ethiopia LIMS project in November last year, valued at approximately USD 22.2 million (KRW 30 billion). Design work for the land information system and ICT centers is currently underway in Ethiopia, and key equipment, including drones and surveying instruments, has already been delivered to the project site.

During the visit, officials from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance were introduced to Korea’s experience in developing and operating various administrative systems, including land information and urban planning systems implemented overseas. They also received briefings on WAVUS’s related solutions, technologies, and project experience.

Udagenho Dereje Girma, Vice Minister of Finance of Ethiopia, stated, “We have been impressed by Korea’s experience in developing and operating land information systems. We hope that Ethiopia can establish a digital land information management framework similar to Korea’s, which will contribute to national development and improve the quality of life for its citizens.”

He added, “We also look forward to benefiting from WAVUS’s extensive experience and technological expertise in the development of additional administrative systems in the future.”

Kim Hak-sung, Chief Executive Officer of WAVUS, responded, “Drawing upon Korea’s experience in building and operating land information systems, as well as the know-how accumulated through years of system management, we will provide full corporate support to develop a land information system tailored to Ethiopia’s land administration policies.”

He further noted, “We are also committed to providing technical support for a wide range of administrative information systems required to advance Ethiopia’s future digital land and national development initiatives.”

Meanwhile, following the Korea-Africa Summit held last month, WAVUS expects greater opportunities for the export of Korean administrative information systems across Africa. The company highlighted that Ethiopian government agencies’ direct engagement with WAVUS and their strong interest in cooperation on land information system development demonstrate the growing demand for Korea’s digital government solutions.
